The Pittsburgh Penguins and the Washington Capitals meet in NHL action from Capital One Arena on Wednesday night.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will be out to snap a 4 game losing streak after a 5-1 beatdown at the hands of New Jersey in their last outing. The Pens found themselves down 1-0 just 2:24 into the game, but Jamie Oleksiak would tie the game just before the halfway points of the opening stanza. That was as close as the Penguins would get however, as Brian Boyle secured a hat trick to make it 4-1 at the end of the 2nd period and Travis Zajac added a 5th goal to give New Jersey the win. Matt Murray took the loss after allowing 4 goals on 27 shots, falling to 4-4-1 this season.

The Washington Capitals will be looking to build on a 4-2 victory over Edmonton in their last outing. Jakub Vrana and Devante Smith-Pelly helped Washington jump out to a 2-0 lead before Connor McDavid cut the lead in half after 20 minutes. T.J. Oshie restored the two goal cushion to make it 3-1 and Alex Ovechkin added a 4th to secure the win for Washington. Pheonix Copley got the win to improve to 2-1-1 this season after allowing 2 goals on 33 shots in the winning effort.
Pittsburgh is 4-1 in their last 5 road games and 0-4 in their last 4 games overall while the over is 13-6-3 in their last 22 games against a team with a losing record. Washington is 1-5 in their last 6 games against the Eastern Conference and 0-5 in their last 5 games following a win while the over is 3-0-1 in their last 4 games overall. The under is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two teams in Washington.
This game is a coin flip in my opinion as Pittsburgh has been good on the road, but have struggled as a whole lately, while Washington has been up and down in their own right. One thing that’s for sure is that both teams can find the back of the net, as we saw by their 7-6 cracker at the beginning of the season, which is why I’m siding with the over in this spot.
