KEY MATCHUP
Panthers’ power play vs. Toronto penalty kill
The Panthers, along with their intrastate rivals in Tampa Bay, were one of two teams averaging more than one power-play goal a game heading into Friday. The quarterback of the Panther power play is Keith Yandle, who co-led the league with Tampa’s Nikita Kucherov with 19 power-play points. But Florida had two other players, Jonathan Huberdeau and Mike Hoffman, ranked in the NHL top-10 in scoring with the man advantage. Considering the Panthers have gone two straight games without scoring on the PP, this after scoring two power-play goals in three of their previous five games, it’s possible they’re due.
NEED TO KNOW
Zach Hyman returns from a two-game suspension; he was paired with usual linemates John Tavares and Mitch Marner at Friday’s practice … Florida’s weakness is in goal: Their .904 5-on-5 team save percentage ranks fourth-worst in the league … RobertoLuongo, who’s been plagued by injuries, has been backed up by ex-Leafs goaltender James Reimer, who gave up five goals in his most recent start … The Panthers have lost four straight … The Maple Leafs have lost three of four … These two teams will see each other again soon — Thursday in Toronto, to be precise.
